4th LAPWORTH CRICKET CLUB FUN DAY – Sunday July 3rd 2011
West Bromwich Albion Former Stars “The Old Baggies” turned their skills to Cricket as they took on the local side at the Lapworth Charity Cricket Match and Fun Day at The Melson Memorial Park on Sunday July 3rd. The Old Baggies included in their team three future stars from the Clubs footballing academy and this produced a really close game. The home side captained by the Lapworth star Sean Cross amassed 197 in there allotted 30 overs and “The Baggies” captained by ex centre forward legend Nicky Cross – also father of Sean - looked as though they were going to get the runs until three quick wickets ended the challenge and the home side ran out winners by 22 runs. Off the field of play the superbly manicured ground was ringed with various stalls, games, sideshows, face painting, swing boats and the ever popular bouncy castle to name but a few. In addition there were numerous food and drink outlets including a pig roast, BBQ serving locally supplied burgers and sausages and of course an Ice cream vendor.
As always the annual event was well supported by the village and people came along to enjoy the wonderfully warm weather, sitting on the grass relaxing, enjoying the food and drink on offer, simply watching the cricket match unfold or just browsing the various attractions.
The National Trust with two properties in the village were also represented at the event as were the Lapworth Scarecrow Festival who were promoting Myths and Legends which will be taking place in the village on the weekend of 17th & 18th September.
Lapworth Cricket Club would like to thank the people of Lapworth and all of the various groups and organisations within the village and of course our sponsors for their valuable support in making this a special day for the community.
A donation will be made to our 2011 charity The Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.
